...organizing your notebooks. On the first page, write the word "Today" at the top. On the last page, write the word "Tomorrow" at the top. Every time you add paper to your notebook, move the page labeled "Tomorrow" to the very back.
Through the school year, every day you begin to take notes for this class, write "Today" along with the date at the top of each page. By the time we complete this school year, you will not only have a complete year of History notes, but you will have written 180 ideas of something in your life you can improve on to make "Tomorrow's" page full."

...lack of imagination. It has come to my attention in recent years that often, my students have lost touch with the imagination of their youth. Many of you are going through the motions of your education, not embracing the opportunities presented to you while you are here. You are only young once. If you think this is a drag, wait until you have a steady job. Now is your time. Challenge yourself, here and now. Challenge figures of authority with new ideas. Push the envelope, be creative, believe that anything is possible. If not now, when? The world can be what you envision when you believe in what you have imagined it to be."

...the way that you hang around the school grounds forming gangs..."
"But Miss," one boy interrupted, "We aren't gangs! We're just harmless little groups with cute little names!"
"All right, give me some of the names and I'll decide..."
"We're all 'bunches' - like 'Bananas', 'Grapes', and other things... see, we hang around in 'bunches'!
"I heard that some are called 'Dogs' and they hang around in packs..."
"Nah! The 'Packs' are 'Cards' and those that are 'Bags' are 'M.n.M's'."
Everyone in the room roared with laughter... little did she know what was really going on.....

...our classroom carpeting."
Standing near the television, Miss Prim smiled sweetly at her sixth grade students and their kindergarten buddies. "I hope you've enjoyed your popcorn during our film, The Big Friendly Giant."
Spontaneously, the kindergartners began clapping.
"Before you leave, check the floor for stray kernels. We want to keep our brand new carpet spic and span; clean enough to eat off of!"
Kindergartners busily scurried about as Miss Prim turned to retrieve the DVD and move the cart back into its corner.
"Miss Prim! They're..."
"One moment, please. Remember, we raise our hands and wait to be called on," Miss Prim gently reminded the sixth grade voice coming from behind her.
Turning back again, she beamed down at the lovely new carpet that was clean as a whistle and the visiting kindergartners popping those last stray kernels into their mouths."

...evening meetings."
Twenty-four parental eyeballs locked on the lone educator who had attended every PTO meeting for thirty years.
Having secured their undivided attention, Mr. Amos continued. "My job is to provide a top notch education for your children. I expect them to get a good night's rest so they will start each day ready to do their best learning."
Like coots bobbing on choppy pond water, the sea of parental heads nodded up and down.
"By the same token, I will do my best teaching if I, too, am able to get a good night's rest."
Looking pointedly at the clock, he stood. "Therefore, evening meetings end for me at precisely 7:45 p.m."
The bobbling heads stilled.
Smiling, Mr. Amos left the building.
